Aside from the names of boys that I’ve liked and a few embarrassing stories, I don’t really have any major secrets. This is why some of my classmates and friends were surprised to discover that I ran a blog after reading a feature of P31beauty on our high school newspaper only two months ago. My friend Brandy often teases me that I’ve been living the Hannah Montana double life- the best of both worlds, haha!
The transition from middle school to high school is an awkward time in most teens’ life. Since high school is so vast, I think most freshmen initially struggle to find their place. Some attempt to fit in by being like everyone else, while others bravely express their individuality. I started P31beauty the summer I transitioned from a private Christian middle school to a public high school. Wearing skirts and dresses all the time at school definitely screamed THIS GIRL IS DIFFERENT. I would get questions from other students my freshman year like “Do you ever wear pants?” or “Why do you wear skirts all the time?” My response would never be confident. I was scared that they would perceive me as weird. Like everyone else, I wanted to fit in. Being vocal about my blog would make me stand out even more. So, I kept it a secret from everyone save my parents and brother. In tenth and eleventh grade, only my closest friends knew about P31beauty and even then, I never really openly talked about it. It was not until this year that I became more comfortable with people knowing that I fashion blogged.
To be honest, I wish that I had been more open about my blog to my family and friends. You know how I was scared of them perceiving me as some strange individual? I was so wrong. My family, friends, and classmates are my biggest supporters! When they found out about my blog, they were nothing but supportive and excited. Their support boosted my confidence about being a blogger and encouraged me to continue doing it. If you are currently in the same position that I was in and are hesitant to let friends and family know about your blog, I encourage you to be open about it! You’ll see that they will be your biggest supporters.
I just wanted to thank all of my friends and family who have supported my blog- you know who you are! Also, thank you to all of you readers for continuing to read my posts. This blog wouldn’t be a blog without you!
love,
