Hi everyone! It’s been a very long time since I did a life update post! P31beauty started off as a platform where I shared my experiences in life, but lately, I’ve been writing mostly advice posts to help you get ready for the school year. One of my goals is to form a better connection with you, so I thought I’d be more open on what’s been happening in my life. I’m making it sound as if my life is super interesting, but honestly, we’re probably all on the same boat- at home and studying! Although COVID has made basically ruined 2020, there were several life changing things that have happened to me this year. So, let me update you on where I’m at!

1. I graduated college on a couch!
This past June, I graduated college with the “Pandemic Class of 2020” on a red hot couch! Graduating has never been so comfy haha! If you finished high school or college this year, I feel for you. Graduation is one of the most significant events in life. For me, it was a big deal because not only had I worked my butt off to finish in 3 years, but I was also the first person in my immediate family to attend and graduate from a university. Not having a traditional ceremony and celebration was disappointing, and I hope that once COVID is over, schools will hold a traditional ceremony for us.
If you just graduated, I want you to know that these circumstances do not negate all of your hard work. Even if your efforts weren’t publicly recognized, you should be proud of yourself for making it through school the past few years along with the unprecedented months of the pandemic. That is definitely not an easy feat!

2. After graduating, I still had 2 more summer classes left to finish.
Even though I graduated, I still had to finish two more classes to fulfill my unit requirements. I took an organic chemistry lab class ONLINE haha! Instead of actually doing the experiments, we mostly focused on the theoretical behind each experiment. The second class I took was on cancer biology, and it was one of the most interesting classes I’ve taken in college. I work at the Moores Cancer Center at UCSD, so a lot of what I learned in the class applied to my job and vice versa! As horrible as it sounds, the way that cancer progresses in our body is actually really fascinating and something that I encourage you to learn about!

3. I’ve started studying for the MCAT.
The grind does not stop for me! After my last class, I took 3 weeks of break before I started studying for the MCAT. As of right now, I’m on my third week of full time MCAT studying, and let me tell you, it is exhausting! The MCAT is a 7 hour test that covers biology, general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, psychology, sociology, and reading comprehension. Basically EVERYTHING you learn in undergrad as a science major will be test. Everyday, I spend around 10 hours reviewing and only have 1 rest day per week. I plan on taking the test in January, so that will give me around 4 months to prepare! After I take the test, I will definitely make a post about my MCAT study schedule and give you some general advice. Let’s just hope that I do well!!

4. I’m going to start working part time as a lab assistant!
After I finished all my summer classes, my student status expired, so I haven’t been able to continue working at the Moores Cancer Center for a few weeks now. However, my boss decided to give me a lab assistant position starting in November! My previous role was more of a student admin job, but now I’m going to be working with cancer cells and researching what is the best way to store them for future use. It’ll give me a change of scenery while studying for the MCAT, and I’ll be making money!

5. It’s only been three weeks since starting MCAT studying, and I’ve felt a loss of motivation…
Even though I write a lot of advice posts on how to stay motivated while studying, I still lose motivation sometimes! Just this past weekend, I was feeling really down because for the past few weeks I’ve been studying everyday in my room for hours. On Instagram, I’d see so many people living life and going out, and it puts me in a whole FOMO mood. Especially since I want to be a doctor, I’m going to be in school for basically my entire twenties. There never seems to be a break for me, which is why it feels hopeless sometimes.
Now that school is online and you’re stuck at home, I’m sure that you’ve experienced the same feelings. If you’re ever feeling unmotivated, I want you to think about how far you’ve come. Think about all the hard work you’ve put in the past few years and everything that you’ve accomplished so far. Next, I want you to think about your ultimate goal in life. If you give up now, everything you’ve worked hard for will be for nothing, and your chances of achieving your dreams will be really small. It’s okay to ride through the feelings of being unmotivated, but just don’t give up or lose hope!
As for the FOMO feelings, I’ve learned that taking breaks when I’m feeling tired of studying and going out on the weekends really helps. Listen to your body because if you don’t, you will burn out. There will be a time in my life when I’ll be able to visit beautiful places around the world and dress up all the time, but I’ll never get to that point and be happy until I’ve accomplished my goal of becoming a doctor. For now, I’ll just enjoy and cherish the local places I get to visit on the weekends!
Conclusion
